Julie Pfleiderer is a Brussels based multimedia artist working across the disciplines of performing arts and cinema. In her work she is interested in the liminal space between documentary and fiction. Julie enjoys collaborative processes where different media and approaches are put in dialogue to create friction out of permanent differentiation.
Julie Pfleiderer studied theatre directing at Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin after two years as director’s assistant at Schauspielhaus Köln. In 2009 she expanded her knowledge with the Post Master for Performing Arts at A.PASS in Antwerp, Belgium. From 2011-2012 she pursued her interest in film, studying at SoundImageCulture in Brussels, Belgium and at Uniondocs in Brooklyn NYC in 2019.
Her theatre and performance work have been presented internationally at Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatstheater Mainz, Schauspielhaus Wuppertal, Sophiensaele Berlin, Kampnagel Hamburg, FFT Düsseldorf, HAU Berlin (DE), Schauspielhaus Wien, Steirischer Herbst Graz (AT), Gessneralee Zurich (CH), Kaaitheater Brussels, BUDA Kortrijk (BE) etc.
Julie’s feature film DAS RETIRÉE OR THE LAST HOUSE OF MY FATHER premiered in 2023 and won the jury prizes at Festival en Ville! in Brussels, Belgium and at Faito Doc Festival in Naples, Italy.
She is currently conducting a practice-based PhD at ArcK / UHasselt, Belgium.
Together with filmmaker Ingel Vaikla Julie co-curated the film programme 'You Cannot Imagine Nothing' for the Rotterdam Architecture Biennale / AFFR and has been invited as guest lecturer at EPFL Lausanne, KU Leuven, Sint-Lucas Architecture Department Ghent and Royal College of Art London.
